Overview

Gordon & Rees was founded in San Francisco in 1974 by Stuart Gordon and Donald Rees, both of whom still maintain active practices and are active in the life of the firm. Gordon & Rees was founded on the two key principles of dedication to clients and dedication to employees. Stu and Don created a firm with a unique culture, proven by the fact that many of the firm's lawyers and employees have not worked anywhere else. For example, Dion Cominos, the current Firmwide Managing Partner, was hired as a Summer Associate in 1986 and has spent his entire career at the firm.

There are many distinct advantages for clients who are served by a law firm of lawyers who have decades of well-proven collaborative relationships among all offices and all practices. Gordon & Rees is proud of the high level of consistency, reliability, stability, resourcefulness, and responsiveness that we provide to clients as a direct result of our firm culture and the long-term loyalty of our lawyers and staff.

National Expansion

In only 35 years, the firm has grown from a small insurance defense firm to a national litigation and business transactions firm with nearly 400 lawyers in 17 offices throughout the United States, including lawyers admitted in Canada, England and Wales, and Hong Kong. Our growth is driven by our reputation for success and an unfailing commitment to excellence. Our objective is to develop long-term client relationships and to exceed expectations through creative problem solving, unwavering responsiveness, and business-oriented legal strategies. Most importantly, we deliver consistent results as cost effectively as possible.

Our national growth has been recognized by The National Law Journal, which ranked Gordon & Rees as one of the nation's top 10 growth leaders, and The American Lawyer, which has tracked the firm's national growth from #176 in 2005 on the AmLaw 200 list of the largest U.S. firms to #154 in 2010. Gordon & Rees holds a proud and prominent position among the group of law firms known as the "Second Hundred" in the AmLaw 200 rankings. The firm continues to grow with the hiring of more than 40 lawyers in 2009 and opening an office in Miami, the firm's 17th U.S. office, reflecting the firm's continued path of national growth aided by increasing business from corporate America's shift to middle-size national firms. Responding to the needs of our clients, Gordon & Rees continues to add and deepen its national practices and pursue additional office opening opportunities when it best serves our clients' needs.
