Carol Schaner obtained an abatement of penalties and interest in excess of $100,000 from the Franchise Tax Board in connection with four income tax appeals for clients of the Denver office. The public accounting firm that handled the preparation of the clients' returns for 2001 took a position on the returns that could not be supported under California law, the clients filed the 2001 California tax returns as originally prepared, and the Franchise Tax Board proposed assessments against the non-resident clients.
Ms. Schaner is certified as a Taxation Specialist by the California Board of Legal Specialization. She also has an L.L.M in Taxation, and is an adjunct faculty member at Chapman University School of Law.
